So, it was only one week ago I received the latest Seether album, and already they were playing in the Netherlands. Happy as I was with that fact, I asked my girlfriend if she wanted to join me to go see Seether live. After studying this album the entire week (so that we actually could sing along with the band), it was time to travel to the Melkweg in Amsterdam. After a period of waiting in the goddamn cold, Dutch rain, we were ready to witness an awesome show.
Try Drowning
First band of the night was Try Drowning. I heard some material of these young guys from Utrecht in the past, but back then I wasn’t really impressed. Tonight, it wasn’t any different. Ok, I’ve got to admit that the music they played was quite okay, but that’s just it. The sound was pretty good, but for some reason the vocalist had to stand on his toes the entire gig. Maybe it’s easier when you put your mic a little lower next time?
Try Drowning played some cool, energetic songs which were nice enough for a warm-up show. They got to play this one song, which happened to be their first track ever, now that’s what I wanted to hear! My suggestion is to keep the music more like that! Because I think this band really needs to create more catchy songs to keep my attention the next time I see them live.
Seether
And then it was time for Seether. The band I completely fell in love with over the last couple of days. Man! These guys are some real pro’s! I cannot do anything else then giving vocalist Shaun Morgan all my credits for his performance. I don’t know how he does it, but his performance was just perfect! What an incredible great voice does this guy have!
And talking about giving credits, basically the same goes for the rest of the band, all great musicians!
I was happy to witness a pretty long show (almost an hour and a half), which started of with two, non-Karma And Effect songs. At first, that scared me off a bit, being afraid that Seether would play a lot of older material that I didn’t know. Though, that appeared to be not much of a problem at all because their older songs were just lovely, even though I hadn’t heard any of them before. Fortunately a lot of new songs were played as well, having me and my girlfriend sing along and nod our heads towards the stage. In addition, Seether also played a Deftones cover and even a tribute song to Dimebag Darrell and Dave Williams (the first vocalist of Drowning Pool).
Some songs Seether played were: Burrito, The Gift, Simplest Mistake, Truth, Broken and of course their latest single, ‘Remedy’. Which was actually the very last track of that night.
All in all I had a great time watching an even greater live band impress a fully packed Melkweg (The Max). From now on, Seether is definitely one of my favorite bands! |

| Great gig it was :) I thought Seether was pretty neat.. But they were in the wrong place supporting Seether, for sure. Shot some pics last night. Will be available on my own website cosmovloedbeld.nl very soon :) (oh, and my review will be on Roarezine.com as well I hope tomorrow) |

| Oh, p.s. The 'tribute song' was "Fine Again". Seether's first single of the Disclaimer album :) |

| Well, since I've seen Try Drowning many, many times (I was also supposed to be there that night, but wasn't because I've felt fucked up), I can say that when Jelmer has his mic put up way too high, he sings much better than when he does not put up his mic that high. But then again, that's me, and I'm prejudiced on behalve of Try Drowning, so I can't be absolutely subjective in my opinion on this matter. |
