After mesmerizing me at their presentation of ‘Drawing Circles’ I thought it would be a great idea to go to another show where they would play with their labelmates Gojira, another favourite of mine. Devilhorns in the sky and prepare to headbang!!!!
For some reason there are people who felt it was a good idea to torture me again with Another Messiah, but as I made very clear in the Gojira live view I do NOT like this band. Fortunately there is a café in this venue as well, so I could escape easily. I saw the vocalist do his clarinet solo, and if I had diarrhoea it would have been time to clean my shorts. Not a fan, never will be.
When I travelled to this venue I ran into guitarist Bart from Textures who was informed by his bandmates that the schedule had been changed and that Gojira had already started. My heart skipped a few beats and I felt very lucky I went to see them three days earlier. When we arrived at the venue it appeared that we were fooled by his oh so funny bandmates. I could have had a heart attack dammit!
That aside, I loosened my hair to prepare for some top-notch headbanging. They again started with the first song of the last album, but the sound wasn’t as good as I had seen with their previous shows. The drum was a bit messy, but not for too long though. The biggest problem was the bass, a lot of the tones struck didn’t reach me at all, they were lost in the guitars, which did sound awesome though. They again played a very impressive and tight show of which you can only conclude that you’re dealing with something very special. As the vocalist informed us this was the first ‘real’ show in our country, it was very apparent that they enjoyed the bigger crowd and they even got a moshpit started with the words ‘we want to see some action!’ He even grunted stuff between the songs, something I hadn’t seen him do either. And besides that he kept thanking a band called Texture, he interacted with the crowd better than before. The set was pretty much the same as three days before, so I knew what to expect and I could headbang like an idiot. Be sure to catch this band if you have the chance, it wont take long before you have to pay ridiculous prices to go see them.
Now the main question for today was; will Texures be able to function as a headliner or will they be completely blown away by their labelmates? The answer came swiftly, as Textures blasted away with a new song from ‘Drawing Circles’ on the same level as their monstrous support act. Again the sound wasn’t optimal, the guitars were quite messy for the first half of the show, and to really get into it you had to stand in front of a speaker, which I did occasionally. The show was played very tight again, with all the fucked up rhythmic riffs coming forward very well. The drums sounded awesome, he’s a fun guy to watch play because it’s pretty much impossible to predict what he’ll do next. The screams and grunts sounded very powerful and convincing, the singing vocals were a bit less. Nevertheless I again banged my head of to classics like ‘Swandive’, ‘Ostensibly Impregnable’ and the ever so lovely title track ‘Polars’. Now I still haven’t bought the new album, shame on me, but I’m completely broke at the moment. But still I loved the new tracks and I fear that when I get to know them well enough that my neck will go on strike.
Although there are some infidels among the readers of this website who will object to the statement I’m about to make again, I’m going to do it anyway motherfuckers. Textures is the best band this country has to offer in the field of metal, good luck with trying to exceed that. And I sincerely mean that. Really. |
