Live View by Sledgehammer Messiah Label: Listenable Venue: De Kelder - Amersfoort Views: 531 Printable Version |
At Saturday the 16th of September, one of Holland's most promising and impressive metal bands, Textures, played at a cozy venue in Amersfoort. A lot of young people showed up, who probably don’t visit a metal show regularly. They where about to be stunned by this great band.
Well, when you’re for the first time experiencing a Textures show and you never heard of them before you will probably be very confused because of all the complicated rhythms they use. Many of the riffs are polyrhythmic and there are a lot of breaks in their riffs which makes their music hard to follow and to headbang on, something which is funny to see some guys in the audience fuck up by the way. After listening several times to the songs you will be appreciating them more and more, that’s the beauty of this band.
The audience were first presented with a more accessible band, namely Malkovich, which is also from the Netherlands. Although they use some chaotic riffs which make you think of The Dillinger Escape Plan they manage to get you into their songs right from the beginning. The band has a kind of hardcore sound but it contains some good, catchy melodies and they’re obviously inspired by Faith No More. Especially the singer reminded me of Mike Patton’s style of screaming. Definitely a band worth checking out.
Then it was time was Textures to destroy my neck, as they always do. I’ve seen them several times and every time they delivered an excellent show, musically as well as visual, and this time wasn’t an exception. They play their complicated songs so extremely tight and they always go for it for the full 100%. As I believe they do the entire tour, they kicked off with ‘Drive’, but it was a surprise to me that they played their most popular song, ‘Swandive’ relatively early in their set. Stef (drummer) explained later to me that they don’t want to be that predictable band that plays it every time at the end of the set and when played early it takes care that the audience comes in the right vibe from the beginning; and that is exactly what happened. Other notable songs are ‘Stream of Consciousness’ with its awesome Morsecode-ish riff and ‘Polars’ because of the riff with the high bleeps which makes you shiver and make you go insane. Just when you think that the bleeps can’t get more insane, they dó get more insane, until your ears have a musical orgasm; perfect. Again this great band gave a fantastic show and delivered me a wonderful evening. |
