The band to kick off this evening of thrash metal was Rotterdam’s very own Fuelblooded. The sound was quite shitty, so it was difficult to follow the fast pass thrash attack this five-some delivers. Other than that, the band doesn’t really bring anything new to the whole scene, so many riffs that are probably older than me passed by in their set. Overall I couldn’t be interested by Fuelblooded, it’s just another thrash metal band that makes you wish you were looking at the one of the legends in this genre. Namely Slayer. SLAYER!!! The first time I saw State:Chaos was at the goodbye show from Callenish Circle. That has been a while, so I was looking forward to seeing this band perform again. Luckily they had brought their own sound engineer with them, so they immediately sounded way better than the previous band. Their high-speed melodic thrash attack bashed into the small audience, as vocalist Remco screamed and grunted like a madman and thus making the whole sound of the band not all too melodic. The songs they play are very decent compositions, and the tightness and expertise with which they deliver them is on a very high level. Overall it’s not entirely my type of thrash metal, but State:Chaos sure convinces with their capabilities, making this a band with a lot of potential. Let’s see where they’re at in a couple of years. Impious didn’t start the show with a real big bang, which was mainly caused by the singer that you could barely hear. Such things are always a kind of anti-climax when everybody is waiting for the main act to rock ‘n destroy. Well…everybody…? The attendance was low, the venue was pretty empty and naturally the vibe wasn’t spectacular because of that. These Swedish guys however did their very best to convince the audience with their typical Swedish death thrash. No, we can’t say that they lack devotion on this first date of their mini-Dutch tour. After just arriving from a long journey they must’ve been exhausted, but it didn’t affect their effort. It’s just too bad that their death thrash is so typical, as I already said, Swedish and by that it lacks the skill to keep the show interesting for the entire duration. Add a singer whose voice doesn’t sound deep enough and sticks to a monotone level and we can’t conclude that this was a show not to be missed. [Sledgehammer]
