A long time I had to wait for Earth to return to European soil. Last time I saw them, their show was followed by that of Sunn 0))), whom played the loudest show ever at 131 decibels, wrecking my ears for good. This time I was a way bigger fan, especially after hearing their new album The Bees Made Honey In The Lions Skull. Unfortunately I was late to see the opening act Sir Richard Bischop, my apologies.

 

These days Earth is an actual band, with of course Dylan Carlson on his guitar, his girlfriend Adrienne Davies on drums, Steve Moore (not the guy from Zombi I found out recently) on keys and trombone and Don McGreevy on bass. This foursome displays the most relaxing, slow music ever. It sounds like a drone version of a Ennio Morricone Western soundtrack, with the main focus on the guitar parts. Under these guitar parts there is this kind of drone atmosphere which is really warm and relaxing. All this is played to the slowest, minimalist beats coming from the drums. Most tracks played tonight were from their new album The Bees Made Honey In The Lions Skull (which I find an awesome album title by the way), so I was very much pleased with this show. Furthermore Sir Richard Bischop joined Earth with his acoustic guitar for a song, so I didn’t completely miss his presence. Overall I was very satisfied with the show, but perhaps next time they might consider making it a seated show, making it more comfortable and relaxing than it already is.
