   About SADHARA

Sadhara are Kathy Burke (guitars and vocals) and Iwan Hendrikx (drums). Sadhara are a unique project in the sense that Kathy and Iwan live in separate countries - the United State and The Netherlands - but come together in complete harmony (or distorted brutallity) to create a special sound.

Sadhara began a musical response to the underground hardcore and metalcore trend in 2003. Wanting a sound that was devoid of current trends, musical politics and drama, yet rooted in musicality, melody, duality and distortion processors turned up all the way, guitarist and vocalist Katherine Burke created a five song drum machine demo.

After some modest international success, Katherine teamed with drummer Iwan Hendrikx from the Netherlands in 2004. The one woman project now becoming a duo, the musicians produced their first full length album "To Hell, With Sympathy" in 2007. Completely recorded in their home studios, the self produced CD was welcomed to great reviews all over the world, including Guitar Player Magazine, and included on several top 2007 metal release yearlists.

With a promising future ahead, Iwan and Kathy are currently writing new material for another CD.

Hey sweetheart hows it going? I came to listen to your songs because your magnificent. In that time I clicked on one of your blogs and found your website.

I then found your demo and absolutely love it. I thought it was newer material and was shocked by how good it was but then I found out it was old, 5 years old.

I am so impressed with your talent and completely jealous of your natural abilities hahaha. You are a huge inspiration to me and the new album is going to be so freaking good I feel like a lil kid waiting for Christmas. I am going to buy both of your albums when I get the chance no worries.

Did you mix and master all your own material in the past??? I am curious because your quality and and volume levels are all so right on and that seems to be difficult for me to accomplish, mastering is going to be the hardest thing for me on the album. I know I am a newbie and we all have to start somewhere but I am very picky and want it to be as perfect as it can be, maybe you can give me some advice??

do you record all your stuff on one guitar with one tuning??

I have found that by using different guitars and different tunings along with different styles of metal on each song its very difficult to bring them to a equal medium. I will get as close as possible but feel that I'm just not there yet.

I hope you can enlighten me since I truly look up to you and respect you not only as a wonderful friend but as a fellow passionate musician with a desire to succeed.

I completely agree with you. I'm strongest in my metal musicianship so I concentrate on that. I have other talent that I hide but someday every secret comes out. I feel that just like azazel and igzordium, there will be a day I will shine in my other music, that day just isn't here yet. You on the other hand have your funky self out there and I'm still hiding in my heels hahaha.

Now that berrie guy was funny as hell, If I ever meet you Ill give you a oranges and cream soda if you dance naked like that for me, deal? Sounds good.

We can put the dance to your disco struttin inner bell bottom personality filled with shimmy lovin grande macaroni filled cheese puffs with chocolate toe nails and a dab of uh huh.

You are truly a magnificent young lady as well and I am glad to be your funky lil friend.

I am disappointed with you though. You never told me about your blues, didn't you know that's what friends are for??? :) You freakin jam kathy and I can't wait for you to hear some of my other music, I record other music but just haven't had enough time to do something as serious as Igzordium. One of these days I will share with you my other half so don't worry:)

That commercial is great but I have bad news, I haven't had the starburst so I can't agree. Maybe one of these days when you don't write me cause your sneezes are demonically taking over your soul I will go buy me a pack of juicy berries and cream starburst just to fill the void. :)

Hahaha you are freakin great, in a lovely and strange pudding filled way:)

Now that is exactly what you want it to be so in your case we have already figured that out.

Its a drawing by Ralph Steadman a very good friend of Hunter S. Thompson, do you know either of them?? You have to know Hunter from the movie Fear and loathing in Las Vegas. Johny depp layed him very very well, he was like that in real life. He ended up committing suicide so hes not with us but he was one interesting artists, maybe a disturbed person but very interesting as a artist.

Well I think you might like Ralph because hes a great artists, he paints and draws with weird things like eyeliner and lipstick. Pretty weird but very cool in my opinion.

Eremitic didnt fit that picture because it was put there for the other picture which was the tarot card of the hermit. I needed something that would fit this more so I put up ataraxy which means "Freedom from disturbance of mind or passion"

I feel that in that painting he was definitely free, maybe a disturbed mind but not by the general public if you get me??

Also what about the oranges and cream, I am still curious :)

I know you cancers live in the past and thats hard on you and your relationships but if you find a way to grow from that then you are truly taking advantage of your cancerian ways.

People always think they need to be exactly what astrology says they are. They are wrong. Astrology is only there to tell you what not to do. Its giving you a head up before you make the mistake and cause yourself pain.

I dont actually believe astrology to be the stars speaking to us, I more think of it as the dogma that is so universal that it talks to every human no matter what sign they are, just like tarot cards. They are purely magical but its in the writing not the universe. So many magicians over the ages have shown examples of this and they dont ruin the magical meaning behind it but actually make it more powerful.

If you except that you are to be a person that lives in the past and never has a happy home life then you will. When you see that you are better then that and you can strive to be different then you will be.

They say that a Gemini's next stage is a cancer and for you its leo, now that only happens if you overcome the obstacles in this life. Do I believe this?? In a way but not the exact way of what most people think, I believe it in the way I recently explained to you. Its teaching you and for you to grow you have to let go.

Katherine you are awesome in every single possible way no matter if you think the same way I do or not, I am fond of you and all that you are. You strive to do the best with your life you can and I truly look up to you for that.

Playing music for example is not only a way to let out your true feelings and have an escape in life but to be confident in your unique abilities as a human and gratify your ego, you may deny it but you know its true:)

Your ego must have been takin viagra or something cause everything that comes out is beyond the normal everyday human.

Anyways We may never agree on this but thats ok, I have never met another person that I agree with this on, I have never known another satanist and may never. I myself perceive satanism in the way I see they want it taught and embrace as much as I can because it only leads to my earthly happiness.

I dont think the number 9 in numerology has anything to do with the number of Satan. I know that the 9 is the godliest of them all, hey wait, there you go. A balance in nature my friend, we are unique and godly, does that not fit a satanist?? Hmm never thoguht of those to to be connected but if you put enough thoguht into it you can connect them.

Anyways you are absolutely amazing no matter if you are Buddhist,Jewish satanist or just Katherine, I still love all of you no matter what and you should always remember that.

You know keeping to yourself isnt always that bad, I have always walked my own path and yeah its been hard but I never let go of the vision I have no mater who tries to change me. If you are a person that likes to keep to herself then embrace that and use it for your music or your art. You know I have never been to a bar in my life??? To most people that is crazy but to me they are crazy, I dont know if you are into it but if you are thats fine I am not judging you so please dont take that the wrong way.

Anyways I have had my fun with alcohol and drugs but grew out of that once I found that there was so much better things in the world that could give you natural highs, kind of like writing music.

You are very knowledgeable my friend, I never knew you knew anything of this sort of thing, you really intrigue me everything I talk to you and that's awesome because not many people an keep my attention for to long.

Now for the ego its actually a lot to do with learning your boundaries and making yourself happy not compulsively being selfish to the point of damaging your well being. If you are a true satanist then you know that the ego can get you in trouble if you use it the wrong way. I see this in other satanist way to often. Just because I myself am one doesnt mean I like all satanists, I hate many of them because they take it the wrong way. I guess I sohuld say they take it in a different way then it was meant to be taken. I think it depends on you and you alone because when someone reads soemthing it will always come out different to that person compared to the person next to them. Just like Crowley one said that if you are to look at a piece of paper from the left and the other person on your right is to look at it they will both see it in a different light.

So many people go into satanism with a close mind and they only leave with a close mind because they never gave it a chance in the first place. You do understand that they realize all people are after gratifying there ego, any religious person or non religious person for that matter. We do everything in life to feel confident and strong in who we are. We dont think you should follow someone else just because they are are so called better then you, why are they better?? They are only better because you let them be. If you stand up and face it that you are unique and there is no one like you then you will start to see that you yourself are the creator of your world and even though you may be hated for what you do you cant change who you are just to please other people.

Hey I was just kidding sweetie. You know I cant believe I did write about that. I have always felt that an artist should try to reveal as little of themselves as possible in there work.

I did those vocals on the spot and thats just what came out. I thought of it kind of like my writing. Just sit down jam and what comes out comes out you know?? I guess when I do it that way you get some good true emotion.

Its not actually about anyone in particular though, more like a hand full of people over the years you know. Life experiences to learn from. I am all about growth, change and moving on.

You know I'm a twin and if you look into it more I am the hermit in the tarot cards, I choose to use Crowleys Thoth deck because I love all the art and symbolism within it. Its kind of strange because Thoth rules mercury and that is Gemini's planet yay haha j/k

you know whats even stranger?? Well its card 9 and I am a 9 by my birth date and every other mathematical equation you can put to me like my name and birthday and blah blah blah, 9 is the number of the devil muahahahah:) A 9 is a very unique character, read on it sometime. moving on. Oh you know whats even weirder?? Well you might not be into satanism or anything but when I got my first satanic bible I bought it off the internet used for 9.99 and it is a collectors guess which one?? well you guessed right, the ninth ever printed:)

Anyways the hermit card is me my dear, Yes I am a hermit, I keep to myself most of the time and walk my own path, always have.

Anyways on that card there is a dog with three heads, call it cerberus if you will, anyways one head is looking back and two are looking forward. It so weird because I have always said that you shouldn't forget your past or shun it but learn from it so the future can be even brighter. I think anyone can learn from that card if they want to.

Anyways I have had a lot goin on in the past year, We can tlak about it another time. I have just begun writing new tuens with new software and am ready to take over the world with you my friend. I write whenever I have the time and so far it is going very well.

There are similarities between that song and what you do with Sadhara, melody-wise. :-) And is that you on vocals? The drums suck, though, to be honest. It's a machine, I know, but still..
