The idea of the band Baneblade originated in the summer of '06. Thomas (guitars) and Leander (bass) came together and, while jamming, decided to form a band. It wasn't long before the other members Jeroen (guitars), Bart (drums) and Mathieu (vocals) teamed up. It lasted several months before the band started rehearsing at the Popschool. After only two months, a try-out gig was initiated. This wasn't the official first gig, which was to take place a month later, at the end of June 2007. Videos have been taken from that show and can be seen on this site (and Youtube).
It seemed the band formation was an instant succes. After only actively rehearsing for three months, the first gig had been played. The melodic, thrash, death metal music was an immediate succes and several gigs followed. After a short summer-break in '07, Baneblade started rehearsing every once in a week, due to the fact that the band were about to play three gigs in three weeks. Although still a young band, Baneblade can be seen playing live about once a month. Keep an eye out for the next gig at the Shows section.
During the last few months of 2007, Baneblade decided to relax and take it easy for a while. Playing quite some gigs, little time was left to work on new material (the gigs had first priority obviously). Feeling they needed new songs and also some time for recharging, a short Christmas break was held.
Also, the band is talking about a demo. Not one for our fans (sorry!) but for venues. By distributing our demo to as many venues as possible chances are big that the band will play more gigs. A real demo, is at this point, not a topic for consideration, although we very much would like to make it.
Currently we are still working on new material and performing from time to time.
Style
Baneblade's sound is a mostly a combination of thrash, death and melodic metal. As the members of the band do not have one single band the all admire and find themselves inspired by, the combination of influences make for a diverse sound. The members are inspired by bands such as Kreator, Obituary, Death, Arch Enemy, Exodus, At the Gates, Behemoth, Metallica and Slayer. All in all, this leads to a very energetic and agressive combination.
