Big fan of the more extreme side of metal. Grind, Death, Black, Extreme Doom, and some Sludge. I'm checking the site out, and always hoping to see some more emphasis on my kind of stuff here!!! hehe ![]() |

Now I've realized that it's a lost cause. For some reason at first I thought this site was underground-oriented, with just a few poserish writings here and there, it is called MetalRage after all, but I was wrong. Reviews and interviews for tons of awful pop metal bands, and even reviews of crap like Evanescence and Creed!!! The album reviews are often full of incorrect information, and were written by people who don't know the first thing about metal, but think they're an expert. On top of that you go through the live reviews section and you can check out some of the worst reviews I've ever read. These guys don't seem to have the slightest idea about any bands that aren't huge headliners, and their descriptions of each band average about 2 sentences, usually something like: "it was blasty" and "they sounded fast", and then finishing up telling about how they left or something before the show was over. Gay. Gay. Gay.

I think Buster should appreciate the fact that the whole crews pays some cash to keep this "site for sellouts" online. And to be honest; What's wrong with the live views? No way that I'm going to do detailed analysis of the songlist or try to memorise the funny jokes the singer said. When I'm at a show Im drinking beer and trying to enjoy it.

I suggest this mongoloid keeps his 'underground' ass where it belongs: in the boring world of monotone underground pessimist dickhead crap bands that we've reviewed just as much as the new Stone Sour, Nickelback or Creed since the day we started. That will save him the revelation of how a e-zine is runned and howmany fucking time there goes into keeping it up and running. I'd like to see douchebags such as him try.

I personally wouldn't have defended my "metal" zine by saying that underground metal bands are all bad, but I guess you're the expert on these matters. I'm sorry guys, but how much time and money it takes to put this thing together doesn't make it any better to try and read this stuff. Patting yourselves on the back for a poor (but expensive) job might make you feel better, but it's a pretty lame thing to do, and it doesn't make for much of a defense against someone attacking this thing that you guys work oh so hard to put together. A suggestion would be to try and find someone who actually likes, and maybe even knows something about metal to write about metal, but maybe that's a crazy thought. It always amazes me how the very same moment people start listening to metal, they want to write about it on the net too for some reason, regardless of whether they have any real knowledge or insight to offer on the subject. Well, I've moved on, but I'll probably come back and check out your hee-larious responses in a few months (so be sure and make some) and maybe even read some live reviews if I feel like torturing myself. That'll be fun.

Hey Butcher. I'm the one of our crew who listens black metal mosty. Most of the bands I listen to could be categorized as underground. I'm 25 (in 3 weeks 26), metalfan since I was 12/13. So, I guess that period should be enough for me to say I know something about metal. Sure, there are lot's of people way older than me, saying they've metalfan since 1980. If you would check my reviews, and then especially the black metal records, you would see, that mostly I gave them some nice scores. Other would heve described it as the sound of a vacumecleaner I guess, but that is because of the fact it is just not their style. Everyone here has his speciality. So I always trie to pick out all the black metal albums, so other won't have to struggle with these. Everyone of the crew does this. I really wouldn't like to review a grindcore record, because of the fact I'm not into that style, and don't have the know how of that style. I really would appreciate it if you would come up with some examples of the reviews I wrote, to show me what you don't like. I'm very open for suggestions. Metalrage tries to be accessible for all metalfans, that is why we don't choose for one of the many metal styles. Personally I think we do a good job on that.

then why do 300.000 people keep checking back here every month? because they all want a good laugh over our reviews? the only reason you don't like us is because we reviewed commercial bands too, but the fact is we review everything on our path, it just so happens to be that some crewmembers like the commercial stuff as well. Hell, Dimmu Borgir is commercial nowadays (if you believe the true black metal heads). So what is the point you're trying to make here anyway?

"It always amazes me how the very same moment people start listening to metal, they want to write about it on the net too for some reason, regardless of whether they have any real knowledge or insight to offer on the subject." You make it sound like you have a PhD in Metal, gained after years of hard study at an empty, cold Fjörd in Norway while sitting in a cave with just the internet and the opinions of others to your availability. I wonder what you think of the bigger metal & rock orientated magazines out there, where the editors and writers are just guys like us but they only publish in print.

Demondust, 300,000 people coming here doesn't mean anything to me. I'm sure 300,000 people do a lot of things. And, it's not a matter of some of your reviewers liking the mainstream stuff "as well" as you put it, it's a matter of.... well.. ::ahem:: The problem is, judging by you guys' profiles, that you all seem to either be very new to metal, or into only the most popular and trendy stuff, or both. In both cases, ones grasp on the metal genre as a whole, as well as it's many subgenres is limited at best. This is why we see so many reviews here of well established bands that begin with "This is my first time hearing this band". This sort of thing, not knowing lots of bands, liking more mainstream type stuff, and being new to metal is all fine of course, but it's not fine for a review site. It just doesn't work for someone to be just discovering the underground and what it's all about, while they're trying to tell others which albums to spend their money on, and which not to. It's also not at all helpful to see a reviewer who likes bands like "Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Hatebreed, Boy Sets Fire, 36 Crazyfists, From Autumn To Ashes, Lamb Of God" reviewing the latest Abscess CD. That is just plain awful, and it's just one example out of hundreds on this site where that is happening. It's not that he just likes those bands, but those sort of bands are the only ones listed as what he likes. He has no business reviewing stuff like that when all he likes is the mainstream stuff. Why would he want to anyway is a big question I have. Another thing I see is people reviewing deathmetal CDs being so fixated on the fact that you 'can't understand a word they say', how ridiculous. Death metal? Can't understand the vocals!? What a shocker! Seriously, you can really tell all reading these that at least the vast majority of you guys just aren't into extreme metal, or are really new to it and see it through the prism of the average mainstream rock fan. Either way the reviews aren't an educated opinion, written by a person with lots of knowledge on the subject they're writing about, and are therefore no help to anyone. Regardless of whether the reviews are positive or negative, they are so uninformative, uninformed, and shallow that they are pretty much useless. Stick with the latest melodic metalcore band or whatever. Arcane I don't really remember who wrote which reviews here. I haven't been here before today in a long time, and I've been reading through a few, but non of them were yours. I'll get back to you if I see anything though. Actually, I'm looking through the reviews now and it seems like you guys aren't really doing as many Death, Black and Grind bands anymore. They are still there, but the huge influx of 'Metalcore' or 'Hardcore' (both are in quotes because they already belong to genres that certainly are not what the words are used for today... ) bands that has happened lately due to that stuff becoming the newest trend seems to be taking more space. So are more rock/emo typse bands. I'm sure it's good for the site. Probably getting more visitors than ever. Well, good luck guys.
