Posted by CarpeSiem, on Wednesday October 4th 2006Best-of albums are always tough to review. On the one hand, you have the die-hard fans that have to be pleased by bonus material, but on the other hand, these albums are a great opportunity for anyone who hasn’t got any album yet. Roadrunner Records now released three of those albums of which I will discuss the best off Fear Factory right now.
Well, actually, the title is both The Roots Of as well asThe Best Of, leaving me somewhat flabbergasted about the purpose of this album. Simply, the period after Digimortal has been excluded from the album and co-factor in the band Dino Cazares is still in the line-up, while on the other hand, I have to admit that the songs on the album are very well chosen; these are indeed the best songs of the band. And that means heavy fucking metal with tracks like Scapegoat, Self-Bias Resistor and my personal favorite Replica.
There are no bonus tracks. It’s just a compilation of the very best Fear Factory songs there are. In my opinion, The Roots of Fear Factory thus represents this album more than The Best of Fear Factory but I guess that discussion will never come to an end. Die-hard fans know how to skip this one and people who lacked money or something back in those days have a great release to look forward to.
