Deathwork is a death/thrash metal band from Italy with already one demo-album out. According to the biography, the previous demo has received some ‘ravishing reviews’ which of course gets me interested. Deathwork, two years later.

Saying the music of Deathwork is pure noise would be an understatement. But it is actually, it is a hell lot of noise. Right from the start, there can’t be any doubt that this is one of the loudest bands of Italy. So far for the positive things.

Because the thing is, it is all so general; the blastbeats, the misplaced guitar solo’s, the over the top singing of a moderate singer who’s trying real hard but who’s performing above his skills. Deathwork is that typical band playing at the opening of a heavy metal day while you’re getting your tokens to get some drinks. You listen a little bit, see four enthusiastic blokes misusing their instruments and you walk further, looking at the time schedule. You praise the enormous speed of the drummer, but he’s also trying too hard and misses his fills every now and then.

And whether you’re pretty much impressed by songs such as ‘Deranged Sanity’ or the fast one ‘Buried By The Dark’, you just know that two demos in four years isn’t going to help a thing to spread the word of this band. As long as it’s fun, it’s fun, isn’t it?
