Månegarm - Vargaresa - The beginning

It is now nine years ago since the foundation of MÃ¥negarm. Through all these years MÃ¥negarm received lots of requests for their old demos, which is very understandable. So MÃ¥negarm decided to re-release them………but not like the first releases of the demos. Peter In de Betou at Tailor Maid was the one who was chosen to remaster the demos, the layout was done by Mats Redestad and the mighty Kris Verwimp (Thyrfing, Absu, Enthroned and Old Man’s Child) made the new cover art.

Like said above Månegarm was founded nine years ago. They released three full-length albums: Nordstjärnans Tidsålder (1998 ), Havets vargar (2002) and Dödsfärd (2003). Before those albums Månegarm released two demos, Vargaresa (1996) and Ur nattvindar (1997) and know these cult demos are combined on one disc.

 

The first four tracks on the disc are from Vargaresa, the other tracks are from Ur nattvindar. And you can hear the difference. The Vargaresa- songs are very basic, no keyboards and stuff like that. You can hear a musically development on the Ur nattvindar tracks, keyboards and violins are used. Both demos have this nice raw sound, which I really like. The guitar riffs sound very aggressive. Just like the vocals. In my opinion Ur nattvindar has a better overall sound. In the Vargaresa- tracks the bass drum is recorded to loud in some parts, but no one can blame MÃ¥negarm for that, it was their first demo.

My personal favorite song is Ett gammelt troll, it has a great dark atmosphere with great killer riffs and a lot of aggression.

Not only the music on this disc is great, so is the artwork, but that was to be expected because MÃ¥negarm asked Kris Verwimp. But the original artwork is included as well.

 

Fans of MÃ¥negarm and Viking metal should have these great cult demos in their collection, and now it is possible.
