Nashville Pussy - Get Some
Well, the formula is well known by now. Dirty, sweaty heavy, yelling and pumping heavy rock & roll blows out of the speakers after the sentence mentioned above. The songs all could well be performed live on stage in the vampire bar in ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’. In this section, five people enter a motorcycle’s bar, where everyone drinks whiskey and all kinds of pussy are for sale. We’ve got the pussy baby!!
*Cough* Back to the songs, shall we? It surprises me that the songwriting is pretty good. Pure rock & roll, great party music, but without the forced energy acts like Andrew W.K. put in their music. The raw voice of Cartwright perfectly fits in the music (again) and the lyrics can only talk about things like ‘raisin hell’ ‘hate and whiskey’ and ‘good night for a heart attack’, meaning that the listener deals with raw, old school musicians who want nothing to give the fans something they long for.
Though on the entire cd, all the songs are immediately followed after another, to give the album a lot of speed. This is a wise decision, because in this way the style of the band is accentuated even more. Additionally, the band varies in parts that are slow, full of rhythm and speeded up. As a result we get an album that is complete, with a good structure in it that contains all you can expect from a band like this.
Yet, I feel the first songs are stronger than the last one. Especially ‘Good night for a Heartattack’ and ‘Hate and Whiskey’ are brilliant, whereas the changes on ‘Snowblind’ are a little bit annoying. Maybe it wouldn’t mind everyone, but from my perspective, I would say that I’ve had enough after the first seven songs.
So, for my conclusion I must say that the band has come up with a nice disc full of ‘Raunch & Roll’ (as they call it themselves). It’s a great piece for partying and festivals but not really something we’re not familiar with. But sometimes it tastes like hell!
