Brant Bjork - Punk Rock Guilt
This is the 8th full length of the man that is known to everybody, as the guy that used to play in Kyuss. From 1999 on, he is releasing some decent Desert/Stoner-Rock albums under his own name and under Brant Bjork and the Bros. Make no mistake, it’s the same band! Of course this band is all revolving around one man and that is Mr. Bjork himself.

This is the second record that I’ve heard from him and I must say that I again enjoyed it. The album starts off with a song that goes on over 10 minutes. This is by far the best song on this album. This song is in the same vibe/feeling, as the Kyuss Welcome to Sky Valley album. A song that goes on and on in a nice relaxed buzzing guitar sound, that brings you back to the windy deserts of the USA.

Second song, called Dr. Special, is dominated by an almost 80s pop-music sounding bass-line. After that we get a more up tempo rocker with the same fuzz guitar sound as the first song. Most of the songs will clock over 5 minutes with the exception of the first and last song. Fifth song Shocked by the Static is an easy listing rocker.

Overall you can say that this record is just a good relaxed rock album. An album that is ideal to enjoy, when you’re not in the mood for some heavy, fast or extreme music. The ideal chill out record for a Sunday morning when you have a bad hangover from the night before.

The seventh track, Plant your Seed, is probably the heaviest track on the record, which again has a huge Kyuss vibe going on. Last song on this album Locked and Loaded is a kind of heavy ballad, that goes on for about 10 minutes. This song starts off with a soft acoustic sounding riff that reminds me a lot to stuff like Golden Earring or even Joe Cocker. When you’re in the mood for some good mellow Desert/Stoner-rock, than this is an album to check out! If you want your Stoner-rock to be loud and heavy, then it’s better to listen to this record first…
