Slipknot appearance at Sensation Black results in stage fight

A controversial guest appearance of Slipknot and Biohazard members during the set of DJ Rob Gee at the Dutch techno festival Sensation Black yesterday, has resulted in a stagefight. As Dutch newspaper 'De Telegraaf' reports, techno fans were already boo-ing the DJ away before his set had started. At around 02.00 a.m. Gee was about to start in his 90's Gabber hit 'XTC, You Got What I Need' and a visitor climbed the stage. Rob Gee felt threatened and went on a fist fight with the man.

One day later Rob Gee reacted to the incident: "The guy came running at me and attacked me. I immediately had to think of my friend and former Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrel. He got shot on stage."

Dutch website Geenstijl.nl came up with video footage of the incident, which can be viewed here and here.

WTF???

Is there anyone who's been there and can share there view?
I used to be a gabber dj myself like 10 years ago and back then mixing up Metal and Gabber happened more. You had Dj Dano remixing Fear Factory and from New York/ USA came alot of Gabber mixed with Metal/Hardcore (Rob Gee, DOA etc)
Slipknot on stage with Rob gee?? Strange that people would react badly to the combo....
Im not a big Knot fan but i would be interested to find out how it sounded.

It was Sid Wilson a.k.a. DJ Starscream (or #0), and Billy Graziadei from Biohazard. I don\'t say it\'s Slipknot fighting, but I think it\'s very significant to mention Slipknot because the fight was obviously due to the mixing in of metal at a techno festival. I don\'t consider it all that odd to react negative on such cross-overs, you\'ll find that in any scene. Certain people want to keep it all \'true\', it\'s narrow-minded in my beliefs though.

Well it was only Sid from Slipknot a.k.a. Dj Starscream. So saying Rob Gee and Slipknot is not right.

Hahaha, I had some good laughs when I read the reactions of the audience at www.detelegraaf.nl and www.geenstijl.nl
All those extreme reactions are so funny. People just can't think clearly anymore these days.

Yeah,

i found out a bit more about that project. Its called Ampt and nowadays even has the bass player from SOAD playing along every now and then.
All i can say about this, is that to me, this wasnt such a bad idea. But then again im very openminded. Like i said, i used to DJ myself, and trust me...its sooo overrated.
Ive been playing guitar now for 4 months. Now that is a challenge to learn.
Gabber is so 1995.

I was there. Rob Gee and Slipknot members started their performance just before the awaited megamix. The result was absolute shit, and after a few minutes, all the people started to booh. Some of them even throw glasses on the stage. People were no longer dancing in the room and everyone started to go angry as the performance continued. It was worse and worse. Then someone got up on the stage to stop the massacre. The fight begin and the videos are quite accurate of what happened. After the fight, the guy who stepped on the stage was applauded by the audience. Then the performance was interrupted and the megamix started.

It\'s not a problem of tolerance. It really was shit like I have never heard ! It sounded sometimes like bad hard rock, sometimes like rap.

Last things, Sensation Black is not a hardcore festival (Thunderdome is the main hardcore fest in the netherlands), but it is an hardstyle festival. There are a lot of difference between the two scenes.

The rest of the night was great and all other DJs did very good performances. The Prophet, Zany and Catscan where the greatest IMHO.

I knew about that project for some time, I accidentally ran into Rob Gee once in the metro in Rotterdam, cool guy. Too bad some people need to spoil the fun, I guess the act was jsut misplaced there, but is that a reason to get violent? They just should have started a moshpit or something. Fucking pussy's.

A friend of mine mailed me:

Hey,

I was there Yesterday, and to set things straight a little bit, here’s a few things:
1. Ampt in fact does not exist anymore. Rob Gee is simply called Rob Gee and he is backed up by some friends (among them Danny Schuler of Biohazard, Sid of Slipknot, Shaun of Hatebreed and Shavo of System Of A Down), but that’s not under the moniker of Ampt anymore. Shaun, Danny and Shavo weren’t able to come to Sensation, so that’s why Billy and Scott from Biohazard and Reesh from 100 Demons joined Rob for this event. More details: http://www.kindamuzik.net/interview/rob-gee/rob-gee-sensationele-mix-van-gabber-en-metal
2. You shouldn’t say Slipknot joined Rob Gee as it was only Sid of Slipknot. Besides that, Sid told me after the fight that when he saw that guy running up on stage, he immediately started unplugging his dj-set. He wasn’t actually involved in the fight.
3. Now here’s the official press release of Rob Gee:

PRESS RELEASE - AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS ENTERTAINMENT DESK

DATELINE: July 9, 2006 Amsterdam

Rob GEE
Sensation Black

Press Release

Rob GEE and Band attacked by “Fan” who rushed the stage at Sensation Black. FLASHBACKS (for the Band) of the MURDER of “Dimebag” Darrell Abbot (Damageplan and Pantera) in Columbus, Ohio in 2004. GEE and the Band respond accordingly.

Rob GEE and the Band were finishing the last song of their set (at Sensation Black) when a “Fan” climbed up the 20 foot wall of speakers and taunted Rob GEE. GEE and the Band professionally, continued their groundbreaking performance of his unique, cutting edge music (a hybrid mix of many styles of dance and metal combined in a very unique way that is amazingly GEE - inovative and once again just a little bit ahead of it’s time).

Rob said to reporters gathered after his arrest - “THAT’S EXACTLY WHERE WE WANT TO BE, JUST AHEAD OF THE CURVE, SETTING TRENDS, NOT FOLLOWING THEM …THERE’S MORE TO LIFE THAN JUST “BOOM BOOM BOOM”. SURE, WE HAD SOME OF THAT, YET, WE”VE CREATED MUCH MUCH MORE THAT THE EAR OF THE FREE-MINDED WILL COME TO APPRECIATE” – Rob GEE -

“ID&T and I share the mission of moving the music forward, that’s what makes our choices of music and line ups so exciting. We both take the risks to keep it fresh CAUSE THAT’S WHAT WE DO!!!!!!”

GEE and the Band acted accordingly to protect themselves and everyone on stage. It was just all too recent and fresh a memory for most “Metal” bands and fans, that on December 8, 2004, "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, and 3 others were murdered when a gunman, took to the stage and began shooting during the band's show in Columbus, Ohio, USA.

Rob GEE and The Band “WEREN’T GOING TO LET THAT HAPPEN AGAIN”

The crowd received this new sound with mixed feelings, as historically it is when revolutionary new art and sound have been created.

Miles Davis put it best:

Don't play what's there, play what's not there.

thats a well written over-postive piece of press-propagande. But still; it sucks that this has happened. But I wonder what would happen if a DJ would tour with Slayer or something.

I am from nyc and was in attendance at sensation black.  first of all, the crowd was not booing the band before they started.  they did boo after about 3 songs.  the music was amazing, just too hard for the pussy ass hardstyle dance crowd.  I would love to see these guys perform again.  its ashame people cant be more open-minded at these events.  and than to ruin other peoples enjoyment by throwing things and than ATTACKING the band on stage is ridiculous.  Im glad the guy received a beatdown on stage in front of his entire country. how embarrassing.  he deserved everything he got.  Props to GEE and his entire crew.  Keep on rockin that shit!!!!!
