Chris Cornell cancels festival dates

Former AUDIOSLAVE/SOUNDGARDEN vocalist Chris Cornell was forced to cancel three previously announced European festival appearances on medical advice. The affected dates are the Metal Hammer festival in Poland, the Sziget festival in Hungary, and the Frequency festival in Austria. Cornell's next scheduled concert is the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium on August 17. The following message was posted on Cornell's official web site:

"Upon completion of the U.S. summer tour, Chris was diagnosed with strained vocal cords and the doctor strongly advised that he take 10 days to two weeks off from singing onstage to prevent injury. Chris deeply regrets any disappointment this may cause his fans in Poland, Hungary, and Austria, and promises to come back as soon as he can."

Cornell recently told The Pulse of Radio that he'd like to see his former band SOUNDGARDEN issue a rarities collection. "i've sort of left that in Kim (Thayil, guitarist)'s world, because Kim had always talked about wanting to be in charge of doing, like, a box set or a B-sides album," he said. "That was something that he had mentioned years ago, and I'm sure at some point he will want to do it, and that's I guess when it'll get done. I don't know how much actual unreleased stuff is out there, but there's definitely some SOUNDGARDEN rarities stuff that the average fan has not heard and it would be nice to put out."

SOUNDGARDEN recorded five albums and two EPs before breaking up in 1997.

Cornell issued his first solo effort, "Euphoria Morning", in 1999. He teamed with three members of RAGE Against The Machine to form AUDIOSLAVE in 2002. That band made three albums before Cornell left earlier this year, effectively ending the group.

Cornell's new CD, "Carry On", came out in early June and features his cover of MICHAEL Jackson's "Billie Jean" as well as "You Know My Name", his theme song for the James Bond film "Casino Royale".
