Ulver frontman to join Thenor at Roadburn 2008
Ulver vocalist Kristoffer Rygg will join Thenor as a special guest for the band's appearance at Holland's Roadburn Festival 2008. It will be Rygg's first live appearance in over a decade. Thenor is a trio of musicians residing in Geneva (Vincent De Roguin, Shora), New York (Stephen O?Malley, Sunn O)))) and London (Daniel O'Sullivan, Guapo). Last year they unveiled "Deep in Ocean Sunk the Lamp of Light" (Vhf Recordings). The end result was a series of nocturnal improvisatory recordings in Geneva, Amsterdam, Berlin and Linz from 2003 to 2005. With the use of layered organic textures and source manipulation, Thenor conjured a harrowing suite of astral soundscapes that defy any exoteric concept of space and time.
The release of two new full-length studio recordings, entitled "Faking Gold and Murder" and "Anthracite", is imminent. Both of these recordings were sourced from an overnight improvisation in an abandoned meat-locker in Geneva and with almost two years of rigorous post-production, audio treatments and contributions by David Tibet (Curent 93), Kristoffer Rygg and Alexander Tucker, and free-improvising percussion duo, Alex Babel and Nicolas Field, they are due to be released on Vhf Recordings in spring 2008.
To accompany the release of these albums, Thenor will perform a select number of shows including an appearance at the Roadburn Festival (by request of David Tibet, Sunday, April 20, 2008, Tilburg, The Netherlands). The lineup, as ephemeral as the music dictates, will be anchored by the trio of Daniel O'Sullivan, Vincent de Roguin and Stephen O'Malley, and they will be joined by some very special guests, including Rygg. Current 93, Baby Dee and Om will perform alongside Thenor at David Tibet's special long-day event.
