Metallica contemplating internet release for next album
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has told RollingStone.com that the band is contemplating the possibility of an Internet release for its next album. "We're free of our record contract," he said. "We have that element of complete freedom with the next record, so we can do whatever we want. We could do an Internet thing or even put it on Andy Greene's record label." He added, "I wouldn't hold my breath for another Metallica record. I'm still decompressing and coming down from the whole experience of the last one, but if we spit one out every four or five years that's not so bad."

Metallica's new album, "Death Magnetic", was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (Riaa) just six weeks after its release on September 12 by Warner Bros. Records.

"Death Magnetic" debuted atop The Billboard 200 chart, Metallica's fifth consecutive album to do so, making them the only band in chart history to have five albums debut at No. 1. It breaks the band's tie with The Beatles, U2, and the Dave Matthews Band, all of whom have four No. 1 album debuts. "Death Magnetic" remained at No. 1 for three consecutive weeks.

In addition to debuting at Number 1 atop Billboard's Rock, Alternative, Hard, and Internet album charts in the U.S., the album racked up No. 1 chart positions in 31 foreign countries, including the U.K., Canada, and Australia, and Top 3 chart slots in seven more, including Japan.
