Need's Dimebag tribute song available for free download
Greek heavy/progressive metal band Need has made its "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott (Pantera, Damageplan) tribute song "Nickles n' Dimes" available for free download on the group's MySpace page.Commented the band: "Five years have passed since one of the most tragic events in the history of music... One of the most admired, loved and inspirational guitar players in heavy metal, Dimebag Darell Abbott, was shot and killed on stage while performing with his band, Damageplan.
"Dimebag built his legacy mainly with his discography in Pantera, who were one of the most influential bands in the general heavy metal scene through the '90s and '00s.
"Pantera have always been one of our favorite bands and although we never met Dimebag in person, his loss came as a huge shock to us, as it did to the rest of the world.
"A few months after his passing, we decided to write a song as a tribute to him and Pantera, for all the great feelings and inspiration their music has offered throughout the years. The name of the song was 'Nickles n' Dimes'. We finished the song in the summer of 2005 and we have been closing all our live shows with it ever since. However, we never had the chance to record it properly so we decided that it was about time.
"'Nickles n' Dimes' was recorded live at the Soundflakes Studios during the recording sessions for our second album, 'Siamese God'. It was mastered at West West Side Music Studios in New York by Alan Douches.
"It's the least we could do as a band to honor his memory. So today, five years after Dimebag's loss, we decided to release it for free for anyone who wants to download and share it.
"Hope you enjoy it as much as we do."
