The bands mentioned above are some of my favourites. I love this style of Gore Grind. But (and it’s a big BUT) this record is a bit boring somehow. I like the fat groovy riffs they play, the bulldozer bass sound and the pounding polka rhythms. But it never really grinds. The drums go pretty blasting fast sometimes, but the guitars just keep playing slow palm muted riffs. No parts to go completely insane on.

 

10 songs (first track is an intro) that sound very similar to say the least, except for some guest vocals. I like the songs, but I’m not too fond of the album as a whole. Not enough diversity to remain interesting until the end.

 

Another thing is the sound of this album. It’s so clean; it’s not that gory anymore. The guitars sound too friendly and the drums too ‘digital’ for my taste. I like it when Grind has an over-the-top brutal sound. Dirty underground-like. Invention: Destruction sounds too perfect to me.

Jason P.C. (singer for Blood Duster) produced this album. I’m not saying he did a bad job; you might say he did too good a job for this style of music. If you’ve heard Cock and Ball Torture’s latest album Egoleech, you’ll know what I’m talking about. It’s a great album but suffers from the same flaws Invention: Destruction does: Not enough speed and a perfect sound which makes the music a lot less brutal.

 

So is this an album to forget about? No it’s not! I’m still loving it; it’s just not what I expected. I expected to be blown to pieces; instead I just got kicked around a lot.

 

By the way: no cannibalism, porn, executions, massacres or other pleasantries in the artwork. Just really close up pictures of musical instruments. No lyrics in the booklet and mysterious song titles, I have no idea what they sing about. It’s definitely Gore Grind by sound, but not by image.
