Wednesday 13 - Fang Bang

65%
The former Murderdolls and Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13 front man Wednesday 13 is back with his new solo album. After his last album’ Transylvania 90210’ which was released through Roadrunner Records he left the label. But that does not stop this horror lover persuading his dream of becoming great like his own idols. In 2006 he is releasing his second solo album called ‘Fang Bang’.

And if you are going to listen to this disc, please don’t expect complicated music. The genre is described as ‘Horrorcore’ by the front man but you can see it as a combination of punk, rock ‘n roll and hard rock. And after seeing this guy live a couple of times I must admit he is doing it in a great way. There are hundreds of people loving his music and enjoying the stuff he is writing.

And who am I to say he is doing a bad job if he and other people love this music. It is easy to say it isn’t a high quality disc with easy to listen music. And yes, that is exactly what I am going to say about this album.  With songs like ‘Too Much Blood’, ‘Morgue Than Words’ and ‘Burried With Children’ you hear typical Wednesday 13 songs which bore many people within the first 5 notes. The problem is that almost every song on ‘Fang Bang’ sounds the same as the one before. And this problem combined with the fact that the drum patterns are way too easy; the vocals are the same constantly (only small changes in tone) and the guitar parts can’t be called innovative. But still, the fact that people love this (style of) music is understandable thanks to the high ‘happy joy’ factor Wednesday 13 manages to create.

Wednesday 13 did what he wanted to and delivered exactly what he wanted to create. And I am convinced his fans will love the songs he has written. Even though I know Wednesday 13 will never be a big rock star and be on top of the Danko Jones hill looking down on his heroes, he did what he (and his fans) wanted instead of what the masses asks for and that is a lesson some bands still need to learn.

i kinda like this album. must not listen to it too often though. the biggest problem with it is that people want to take it serious but that is the biggest mistake you can make with W13. it's just funny to listen once in a while, that's all.
