Trivium - From Ember to Inferno

75%
Hailing from Altamonte Springs in Florida, Trivium is a relatively young metal metal band. The average age of the members is approximatly 20 years old, but this CD sounds as if they are an experienced modern melodic thrash/death band with years of experience under their belts.

From Ember to Inferno is their first full-lenght, blessed with a good, clean production. The disc starts with a cliche intro, before it hits into Pillars of Serpents. A hard-hitting song that pretty much sets the style for the rest of the disc; A damn good copy of the succesfull Scandinavian bands like Arch Enemy, At the Gates, Children of Bodom and In Flames, mixed with the typical American influences from Testament and Pantera.

Somehow the band felt the need to put a melodic sing-along chorus in basically every song, which unfortunatly takes out alot of the speed and overal heavyness that band excells at. Singer/Guitarist Matt Heafy has a great aggresive voice, but the melodic stuff makes it sound weak and "typical mainstream metal" if there is such a term. Most of the songs are great, good riffs, good melodies, and some really nice drumming.

Trivium stands for the three basic liberal arts of grammar, logic and rhetoric, combined to give grace and credibility to those who sought to rise above in society. I cant really say the band stands out, but with a more defined style they might get on the level of the bands they admire so much. They surely have the technical bagage available.
