The German mathcore outfit Time Has Come has released a split album and a 4-track EP so far, which were received very well and landed them a deal with Regain Records. This month brings their first full length album, entitled White Fuzz. Let’s see if there’s still something to add to the mathcore genre.

 

After the success of bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan and Cephalic Carnage, a lot of bands emerged that followed in this trend of highly technical hardcore/grindcore. Time Has Come is one such band, but will they have a sound of their own? From time to time I doubt this while listening to White Fuzz, which sounds a bit like a combination of The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Red Chord and Cephalic Carnage. The vocals sound very screamy, with a hint of the drunken style vocals that guy from Daughters uses. But occasionally the band manages to surprise me with some interesting twists and turns as one would expect with mathcore, making this album a nice addition to the collection of fans of this genre.

The variation between hardcore and grindcore sounding parts, combined with some slow atmospheric parts holds the listener’s attention throughout the album, yet the rough and relentless production keeps one on its toes. Overall I’d say Time Has Come delivered a great effort in a genre of extremities. They’re not at the top of their abilities yet, but with this release things could start to look good for these Germans. Keep it up!
