35 7-inch singles, one 10-inch EP, 10 CDs and more than 35 appearances on various compilation CDs are pretty amazing statistics, but to me, Adam West doesn’t ring a bell at all. It’s also unlikely that I will hear much more from this band in the future, ‘cause with ESP: Extra Sexual Perception they’ve just released their final album. Furthermore their farewell tour through Europe took place past October and they played their last show ever on November 8th in their hometown Washington DC. What did I miss the past 17 years?
To be quite frankly with you: I missed nothing special. Sure their rock ‘n roll is nice to hear and very appealing, but immediately during the first song of this release, ‘On Her Satanic Majesty’s Secret Service’, they reminded me of Danko Jones. Therefore I’m glad Adam West quits and Danko Jones continuous instead of vice-versa, ‘cause Danko Jones has a lot more quality.
Adam West’s latest baby, ESP, turned out to be nothing more than a decent record. Not very original, not very spectacular, just decent. The song titles and lyrics are mostly funny and you can’t stop tapping your feet while listening to it, but that’s all. These songs are perfect for hanging out with some friends, while drinking huge amounts of beer, but like I said before: that can’t be realized anymore. I guess this final record represents the band very well and if you’re into oldschool rock ‘n roll you’ll dig this, but don’t expect too much of it.
