After the absolute brilliant masterpiece Assassins: Black Meddle Part I out of 2008, this is just a short EP to keep us warm for this Chicago based psychedelic black metal outfit.
Where Assassins is a black metal album that is heavily influenced by old 70’s psychedelica and industrial music, this 4 song album has a way more straight forward approach of their unique brand of black metal. The disc opens with a blistering fast and brutal black metal song called ‘Bones’. Not unlike Marduk kind of fast black metal, but fast as fuck black metal with a certain groove thrown in and a kind of eerie drug enhanced atmosphere.
It continues with a song called ‘Life Of Fire’ that is a typical 70’s psychedelica influenced black metal, with a lot of use of Moog synthesizers and sound effects. After this song, the goat is loose! They absolutely kick your skull in with the incredibly brutal, Motorhead inspired headbanger called ‘Hellish Overdose’. Seriously if this is black metal; black metal won't get any better than this! Simply amazingly brilliant! This skull cracking tornado is continued in a blistering black/death metal song called ‘Pitch Black Cadence’. This song is way more death metal influenced than the other songs, but is just as brutal and effective. It’s like a drugged up hippie on a bad LSD trip, bashing your head in with a wooden stick full with rusty nails.
This EP left me gasping for more and I simply can’t wait until they will release their new full length Addicts: Black Meddle Part II!One of the best and most promising black metal bands around at this point of time.
