When I listen to the new album of Saffronkeira, the project of Eugenio Caria I never would think about Gilles and that specific last name. You never will start saying bad names when you hear the etheric laptop sounds on Tourette. Almost five quarters long this bedroom musical creator takes you along experimental computer sounds, crackling noises, relaxing beats and hypnotic ambient waves.

The first track ‘First Step’ is a wavering entrance with bleeping electronic sounds over a field of subtle noises. The continuation of Tourette has some minimalistic beats included until we reach the first highlight ‘Motion’. A repeating loop of the electronic version of a classical orchestra is running over a pulsating beat in the background. Yeah we are warmed up now and with more small details (for example a piano and a sampled voice) the dark and warm voyage continues in ‘Fragile’.

The long ‘Obsessive Compulsive” starts with field recordings until it continues in a fresh ambient texture with noises and a heartbeat in the back. In the upcoming range of Denovali artists Saffronkeira fits perfectly but still is slightly different with the use of unusual noises and tones. Sometimes it’s hard to follow what Eugenio Caria wants to tell. The music is flickering too much back and forth; finally you are in the vibe when it’s distorted again by strange crackling noises or an Italian speaking voice. Later it’s all gone and what’s left is the beginning ambient texture.

The portrayal through sounds continues and the best it can be described as a modern radio play late at night. Imagine how people listening to the radio in a room without barely no light, only one candle burning. Invest your time in this album that is based on neurological diseases. You got a lot of pleasant moments back (another highlight is ‘The Disease’) but it’s also not always easy to understand Caria’s puzzle. In that manner his previous record A New Life had a much easier and straight forward approach.
