For me Act Of Grace is my introduction to the Polish thrash metal band Virgin Snatch. However this is already their fourth full length album, somehow their thrash metal totally slipped under my radar. Maybe that´s because Poland is normally not known for their thrash metal, but more for their death and black metal, who knows.
Virgin Snatch brings us thrash metal in the vein of Testament with a dash of Exodus. Since this is the case with a lot of thrash metal, normally you can expect to get a cheap rip off, but Virgin Snatch brings us an excellent album full of aggressive uptempo thrash metal.
One thing that stands out is their good use of varying between a gravelly thrash voice and clean vocals. They don’t overdo it, so they keep the power and aggressiveness in the songs; Virgin Snatch finds the perfect balance between the two types of vocals. Besides the balance, I finally have the pleasure to hear some good clean vocals instead of the gimmick clean vocals are with a lot of contemporary bands.
The songs are interesting and they keep my attention not only the first time, but even after several spins. Even the ballad ‘It’s Time’ doesn’t sound corny! This song is dedicated by Vogg from Decapitated for his brother Vitek and I must say they really know how to get the feelings across, all without the soap opera cheesiness!
