The Alien Blakk - Modes Of Alienation

 

Well I start with introducing the mastermind behind this project, mister Joshua Craig Podolsky. If that name doesn’t ring a bell, here’s a short list of people he has produced for or played with: Rob Halford, Fear Factory, White Zombie, Kiss, Cypress Hill, Christina Aguilera and Methods of Mayhem to name a few. The man plays the guitar himself, and he decided it was about time to release an album where he plays everything he loves, assited by Megadeth’s David Ellefson on the bass guitar and Flotsam & Jetsam’s Craig Nielsen on drums.

 

His musical preferences are, quite diverse. That is easily discovered when after a couple of tracks you’ve been confronted with fast metal, relaxing latin-jazz and classical rock, humoristic country-rock and your basic guitar virtuoso material. All executed in a slightly rhythmical way of playing and produced with a mix that of course emphasizes the guitar.

The fact that this is an instrumental album has two consequences. You can fully concentrate on the music to absorb what is going on, but on the other hand it occasionally makes your mind wander off. I enjoy both scenarios so that’s a good thing.

 

Like the bio for this album says; only the ear can describe. And that’s not even entirely true because all the tracks vary tremendously from each other. All in all it’s very nice to listen to, but I suspect the production will not appeal to all people though. That’s very personal I’d say. So if you’re interested in something new that describes itself as Frank Zappa meets Meshuggah with hints of Fear Factory and Guns ‘n Roses, check this material out. Very impressing, yet relaxing and slightly elevating. I’ve said enough, you go hunt down that alien!
