A lot of people have been waiting for the next sentence: The Orange County hardcore formation Ignite is releasing their new album on May 15th 2006. Their previous album ‘A Place Called Home’, which was released 6 years ago, was well received and re-released several times including extra songs like ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’ (U2 Cover) and the Hungarian version of ‘A Place Called Home’. In 2006 the band will release their brand new full length entitled ‘Our Darkest Days’.
 
As the title might tell you, frontman Zoli Teglas is still obsessed by politics. After the intro ‘Bleeding’ kicks in and the tone has been set for the record. With an aggressive mid-tempo hardcore song, which is incredibly melodic and catchy, the record instantly caught my full attention. The second song ‘Fear Is Our Tradition’ continues the sound which is brought before, I am pleased with the result so far, nice raw (but slick) hardcore production and, as usual, the amazing vocals of Zoli!
 
The most impressive parts on ‘Our Darkest Days’  are the various incredible hooks they have inserted into their music (Example: ‘Let It Burn’, ‘Three Years’, ‘Better Know Your History’) and the double bass on ‘Poverty For All’. The songwriting on this album has really improved music- and lyricwise. Besides that, the band has added a second guitarist on this album.
 
One of the faster songs is definitely ‘Better Know Your History’ , which is written for the incredibly stupid (which the band will tell you when you see them live) George W. Bush. The song impressed me when I saw them and it surely sounds great on CD. Another one which surprises me is a new version of  ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’. The band gave the song a new refreshing twist which gives this album something extra.
 
To continue about the album, two abnormal Ignite songs on this album are the acoustic song ‘Live For Better Days’ and the bonus track which is in Hungarian, once again. Overall this makes 'Our Darkest Days’  a complete album which offers diversity and a great combination of punk, rock and hardcore.
 
The lyrics quote ‘Three years is a long, long time…’. I would say ‘Six years is a very long, long time…’, but it sure was worth the wait!
