Day 2 - Saturday August 20th
Day 2 – Saturday August 20th

Second day, more acts, the program started at 11 and Siem and Buzzin Hornet wanted to see Cool Politics. Let us get up early and watch one of the most refreshing things on the Lowlands Festival.

Cool Politics – Lima (Buzzin Hornet)
Coolpolitics is present on the Lowlands festival since 2003. It is used to get the Dutch politicians closer to the people on Lowlands; giving the people the opportunity to ask questions during a debate on stage. 2 politicians and 2 well known Dutch people are sitting on the stage and two presenters are guiding the conversation with a sense of cabaret. This year it was all about the Dutch Identity, what is it, can it be explained. Well, to be honest no single person on stage could answer that question. The politics were fighting each other with one liners and the other two were just making their point clear. But no single mind answered the question, what is the Dutch Identity. This is a subject that can wonder around for weeks, I think no one can answer this one.

Face Tomorrow – Charlie ()
Coming!

Apocalyptica – Alpha (Buzzin Hornet)
A long time ago I received a Apocalyptica album on MP3, not knowing what to expect but amazed by the quality of the music. On this day I got the chance to see them. The band consists out of four graduated cello players and a drummer (who is pretty damn good as well). The band got their own repertoire but they play some covers as well. Enter Sandman and Master of Puppets are two covers they actually played on stage. The music is something you need to love, the show is something you have to see. If you can see this group somewhere, don’t hesitate; go there, you won’t be disappointed.

El Pus – Charlie (Napalm Lex)
The complete and utter surprise that every Lowlands edition holds in its pocket came from the Atlanta based cross over maniacs of El Pus (pronounce "Al Poos"; ). Five agressive looking hip-hop flavoured dudes that seemed to walked straight of the set of the San Andreas video game. Guitars in distortion, grooves in Living Colour's honor, Dubwar's dance factor, Rage Against The Machine's hit potentially. As far as the stage anticts went it reminded of Body Count, Public Enemy or The Roots.
An extreme variety in styles, and all played with the single goal of turning a mere curious audience into a sweat pool of party pleasure. And that is just what they did, after a song or three, the Charlie audience was eating out of' El Pus' hands. They managed to get about 60% of the audience to take their shirt off and wave it above their heads RHCP style. And this is HOLLAND we're talking about! Not to mention the Bodycount style moshpit during the last three songs. The band leaves the stage and Charlie's audience screams for more, and the encore leaves a burst of energy for the Lowlanders to vent in three minutes. El Pus conquered the Charlie stage. El Pus is that band that we're going to be talking about on Lowlands 2007. "I Was there", you'll say with a open tone of pride. Fantastic, best newcomer of the year.

Death From Above 1979 – India (Napalm Lex)
A bas player and a drummer. Five thousand hip cats in the audience. Empty tones boosting from the speakers. Trendy. Soulless. Nonsence. I'm going for a bite to eat, fuck this shit.

Pixies – Grolsch (Napalm Lex)
Kim Deal, Francis Blackis and Joey Santiago are still on their never ending reunion tour. And they still captivate. Wait, that is an understatement. Pixies hypnotize. Play an astonishing amout of songs in 75 minutes time. And play it with love and sickening perfection. Play their biggest 'hit' Where Is My Mind as a third song in their set. Have no explainable theme or logical setup for their setlist, but fascinate 10.000 people. With 'Monkey Gone To Heaven' and 'Debaser' as epic orgasmic highlights. One of the best concerts I have ever seen. Please keep this reunion tour running for a year or two!

Marilyn Manson – Alpha (Napalm Lex)
If Satan could become Roman-Catholic, his name be Marilyn Manson. He's that cuddly fellow with his shaven buttocks exposed. He's your Mom's best friend. Your little sister just loves The Dope Show. Every body jump!
Marilyn Manson used to piss everyone off. Including the metal heads. His legendary Dynamo gig he had a beershower that would never be seen again. He was the envy of shock rock, even Trent Reznor digged him. He was the embodyment of anti-astablisment terror.
Now he gets 30.000 indiffrent party people jumping. Some of them are wearing his shirts. Some are sexy girls, some could have been your dad.

Manson my friend, please quit. For your own dignity. And let that bum-hair grow again. It's over.
