Parris - A Dutch Thin Lizzy tribute
It has been four years since I last saw the Dutch Thin Lizzy tribute band Parris, so when I saw that they would be playing at a local bar here in Venlo, I went down to say hi to some of the guys and watch them honour one of the greatest bands in rock history; Thin Lizzy. Rock!
To start this review, the musicians in this band are all extremely professional and extremely good. You ought to be, when covering these songs man, and consider that they do this for two hours and twenty minutes, skill and stamina is definitely required. Some of these guys are professional session musicians anyway, so no problem in this area so far. This stuff just rocks. If you listen to Thin Lizzys music, you hear where bands like Mastodon and Baroness got their inspiration from. Those recognisable fiddles on the guitar found their origin in this Irish band, and Im glad there is a decent cover band for them in our small country. I just have one collectors album from Thin Lizzy and all of my favourites from this album were played. Even the greatest track ever written by Thin Lizzy, Emerald passed by. I enjoyed myself perfectly with Parris, thats for sure.
I only found one thing rather irritating, the bassist. This guy is good, I mean real good, which leads to him fiddling around in songs as well, something that Thin Lizzy would never do since their bassist was also the singer. A small point of annoyance, but since I am a bassist myself I didnt really mind too much. A great evening, by a great cover band!
