Danish Metal Awards - A delayed report of an awesome evening
One of the most prestigious metal events in Denmark and we didn't have anyone to cover it. Or so we thought, because help came from one of our die-hard readers: Carsten Nielsen (canie). Below, you'll find his views on a night to remember.

The Danish Metal Awards is the biggest metal related event in Denmark. MTV will be broadcasting a report about this diverse show in the program Headbangers Ball, at the following times:

Tuesday     27.11.07 at 23.00
Thursday    29.11.07 at 23.00
Sunda        02.12.07 at 01.00

The Danish theatrical metal band Evil Masquerade opened the show; sadly enough the sound system wasn't fine tuned when they started playing, but it quickly got better. After that performance the tight schedule demanded to move on to the first part of the award ceremony. Seconds later the only 19 year old lead singer Jonathan Albrechtsen and his fellow band members of Hatesphere went on stage and performed 3 awesome trash metal tracks. Sadly enough the sound still wasn't perfect; it was hard to make out the melodic parts, but Jonathan's growls could be heard clearly!

Then Soilwork's Dirk Verbeuren (drums) handed over the award for the debut album of the year to Pitchblack and the live music continued with the industrial Mnemic. Yet the sound problems persisted, which was a shame. Even without perfect sound Soilwork's music inspired people to make a killer Moshpit in front of the stage.

The Special award was handed over to Erik Thomsen (the man who brought metal to Denmark); afterwards the band Volbeat, who was expected to win the award for Live Band Of The Year, went on stage and gave a great performance with flawless sound, even the non-fans were impressed. They performed Sad Man's Tongue and other tracks from the Metal Album Of The Year: Rock The Rebel/Metal The Devil.

Soon it was time for the main event of the evening: handing over the award for the 'International Album Of The Year' to Machine Head, who appeared on stage to receive it. It would be hard to describe how happy people were with their presence because foreign bands don't come to Danish award shows often. Soilwork then performed 5 tracks, Stabbing The Drama, Sworn to A Great Divide and Distance, to name some. The audience wasn't as motivated as they were when Volbeat played - maybe people were getting tired or just awed by Bjrn Strid's growling and singing.

The awards of this DMeA went to the following bands:
Metal Album Of The Year: Volbeat - Rock The Rebel/Metal The Devil
Debut Album Of The Year: Pitchblack - Designed To Dislike
Metal Production Of The Year: Mnemic - Passenger
Metal Talent Of The Year: Invisius - Edge Of Hostility
Metal Video Of The Year: The Psyke Project - I Get Paralyzed
Metal Cover Of The Year: Anubis Gate - Andromeda Unchained
Metal Live Band Of The Year Dawn Of Demise
International Album Of The Year Machine Head - The Blackening
Special Award: Erik Thomsen: The man who brought metal to Denmark in the 60s with bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Motrhead, Metallica and Machine Head.
