Weltenbrand - The End Of The Wizard
Weltenbrand, a name I’ve heard before, but I never knew what kind of music it was. Time to find out.

Weltenbrand is a dark wave ensemble from Liechtenstein. This was the first band I knew from Liechtenstein, but hey, musicians can be found in every small town, so why not in Liechtenstein?

When I put the cd in my cd-player I still didn’t know what to expect, and after the first tones came out of my speakers I expected some gothic metal. But after a short while I realised it was not metal at all. Well, ‘not at all’, it’s almost metal, but just without guitars. Like I said above, it’s dark wave.

I was really astonished about the vocals, they are just awesome, both the male and female vocals. So clear and bright. But not just the vocals are great, the compositions of the songs are awesome as well. Great arrangements. The song ‘The French and the wine’ is really a nice work of art, it has a great dark atmosphere, a nice variety of tempo, and what I really like and did not expect in this kind of music: double-bass passages. It just sounds great.

For me it is very hard to compare Weltenbrand to any other band, because of the fact I don’t know so many dark wave acts, but if I have to compare it with a band I know I would say Therion (without the guitars of course). I really like this album and I have to say to the metalheads, you really should give it a try, throw all your prejudices away, close your eyes and enjoy this great piece of art.
