Rose Moyer - Rose Moyer
"We are a Portland based hardcore/metal band."
That's pretty much all the background information that is available on the guys of Rose Moyer and hey, it should be enough. Who needs page-long biographies when you have music to listen to? Let's put this hardcore/metal disc into the good ole cd drive and make it spin.
Rose Moyer is one of those bands that are out there but somehow you never hear of them. Is it the lack of decent songs? Shouldn't be the case. With catchy riffs like in "The Unmotivated Cultleader" (cool title btw, and the first guitar riff reminds me of Tool’s “46&2”) and the opening blastbeat and badass tempo changes on "Delicate Sutures" every fan of modern metalcore (or apply a fancy label of your own on it) should get his or head bobbing along with this little record. The songs are more complex than let say, a Hatebreed track; the band isn’t afraid to play with stop-start riffs and knows that ‘the almighty groove’ is an important factor. One of the things I kept thinking about was old Deftones, but with screamed vocals and more metal influences.
The first 4 tracks on the disc are recorded by Steve Holt (36 Crazyfists) and are of a better quality than the rest of the disc. I don't know what the reason was to record the other tracks somewhere else (probably time/money related) but the disc would be a better listen if the sound was more consistent. Definitely promising stuff.
