Fuelled on a diet of Sex, Drugs and Rock&Roll, that’s the way G.U. Medicine makes their music. Founded in 2003 this band from Barnsley in the U.K. got recognized fast by radio DJ Mary Ann Hobbs. She was so into the band she even said they were better than sex. A couple of months later they released their self-titled debut album. It was received very good in the press, and brought them on stage with bands like: My Ruin, 3 Inches Of Blood , Viking Skull and many others. Now, two years later their second album Saints Of Excess has just hit the streets.

Fasten your seatbelts because you’re going on a rough rock & roll ride with G.U. Medicine. Starting off with the song ‘A Meeting With Foul Play’, GU sets a tone for the album. They catch you with their fast and dirty rock & roll sound, and won’t let you go till the end of the album. Songs like ‘Taking Her Lead’ and ‘Amphetamine Express’ represent the sex en drugs on the record. But is not only rock & roll on this album. The grungy voice of singer Lee Storrar and the melodic, a bit Queens Of The Stone Age alike, guitar solos make this record complete.

 

All in all I think the guys from G.U. Medicine did a great job on this album. This band found a new way to make Rock & Roll music attractive again. After conquering the U.K. with their first album, they are about the conquer Europe with this one. Rock & Roll is not dead, and these guys prove it.

 

Better than sex? I don’t know. But it sure is as dirty and wild as I like my sex !
