Fatal Smile - Neo Natural Freaks
Fatal Smile. The name sounds like a bad chosen nickname for some online-game addicted kid. With their album titled Neo Natural Freaks you could also think they’re all members of some kind of new world order. And with their tribal dragon they also manage to have the worst artwork ever. With all this as a first impression… what will the music bring us?
Eighties heavy rock is what it reminded me of. No surprise if they say they’re influenced by the music they grew up with. It's obvious that they are all old (school) rockers. You can hear this most clearly in the vocals. Heavy powerful singing with a lot of trembling in the screams.
Their style is pretty straight forward. Rock but almost metal. With that I mean metal like in Metallica’s Load and Reload period. Not really that heavy though. I hear that especially in riffs like the ones you find on ‘Common People’ . As their record is mixed by the same guy who mixed Backyard Babies you could compare their sound with them.
Neo Natural Freaks is one equalized trip. No variation offered, just plain heavy rock. If you’re into this and like to blink at the past but recently cut your mullet and stopped wearing leather pants…check it out! If not…don’t even bother. Because you will probably, just as me, not like it.
