Moros Eros - I Saw The Devil Last Night And Now The Suns Shines Bright
The recently signed Victory band In Vitro changed their name to Moros Eros. Eros is the Greek god of love. Moros means something like an omen of impending doom. Not sure what they want to tell you with that. But just like the title I Saw The Devil Last Night And Now The Suns Shines Bright they’ve created a weird contradiction with words.

The booklet tells me that Moros Eros believe that the devil is the necessary evil. I quote; After all, how else are we to know how good are live are.....if we don’t see the devil from time to time.

In that way the album title makes totally sense to me. It’s like you see the light when you’re in the dark. With stuff like that, Moros Eros must be hippies, just like me.

This is not a band you should expect on Victory. Unlike other artist on Victory Records, Moros Eros plays experimental orientated indie pop. They have an unusual style which I musically can not compare with other bands. That’s why you could call it original.

The drums are based on repeating patterns. Most of his rhythms contain out of a lot of fills like you can hear on ‘When I Wake’. With only one guitar they overrule the music a little bit. I also got the feeling that the guitar and keyboard are not fine tuned yet. As if they still need to search for the perfect balance.

The vocals reminded me of The White Stripes. Especially on ‘I Saw The Devil Last Night’ which is a bit strange song to me. The whole album is produced with a raw sound. They used some kind of distortion on the vocals and gave the drums a lot of attack. The keys on the other hand are put in the background while the guitar sounds pretty poppy.

As you see I believe that their music has some contradictions as well. It’s a bit dark when it also can be bright. My conclusion is that Moros Eros brings you something new. If it’s going to be enjoyed by many is just something we’ll find out in the future.
