Mentation - Circle Of Perpetual Occultation
Mentation - Circle Of Perpetual Occultation

For me this band is entirely new. So I will start this review with the biography of this Dutch band. Mentation started their reign of depression back in the last months of the year 2000 when Martijn, Leon, Reinier and Ivo hung out together in a rehearsal studio in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Although playing together for fun and metal then, the basic set was forged during that time. Over the years, their song-writing aimed to approach a perfection that was virtually unachievable; yet, by setting these high standards, a goal had been set that would guide the band where they wanted to go. A couple of line-up changes later, Mentation was ready for the stage and since then has been showing up at gigs around the country, seaking to break through to a larger audience that loves metal as much as the bandmembers to.

After 3 years Mentation decided to record a demo. So now its up to me to make a review of the demo called: Circle Of Perpetual Occultation. The cd contains only four songs. I dont know if there are more songs of Mentation because the songs on the cd are good. What can you aspect? The voice of the lead singer reminds me on Carcass. A brutal screaming not to deep grunting sound is coming through the throat of Martijn. In the most bands that I like you cant hear what they are singing but in Mentation I can hear what they are singing about and even like it. I can describe the music like fast death metal with thrash influences. The only negative point to this cd is that there are so many bands making the same music these days, so its not quite original. But in my opinion, I think that there is something in Mentation that could make them better than they already are. This band deserves to record a cd for a record company!

Some other fact about this cd is the quality. Okay its not a quality for a cd with a major label behind it. But for a demo cd its a very good quality. For me personally Mentation is a very good death metal band whit the potential to become a good running metalband. The musicians can really play together. Im looking forward for more songs and a live gig!
