The County Medical Examiners - Olidous Operettas
The story of The County Medical Examiners is one that amuses and amazes me tremendously. This band is comprised of actual professional doctors (pathologists to be exact) whom make goregrind in the vein of Carcass. So this means they actually ‘sing’ about autopsies and such, without making up things or just throwing in random terms. They’re really talking about their jobs here!!! Kick ass!!!

The band was formed as a Carcass tribute band in 2001, but soon started to write own material and in the year after, their first album saw the light of the morgue through Razorback Records, entitled Forensic Fugues and Medicolegal Medleys. After their bassist left and they recruited a 63-year old colleague to join them, a split album with General Surgery followed. And now they treat us to their second full length album; Olidous Operettas.

So, saying Carcass says it all for TCME. I could also name bands like Exhumed and Impaled, but that’s basically saying the same. So originality is out of the question here. And while I normally find that a problem, in the case of these bands I don’t, since it’s a great combination of thrash and death metal with grindcore and gore. And considering that the lyrics really describe operations and such, I find this band to be a great addition to the roster of insane surgical brainbashers.

I heard a lot of stories about them already, like that their bassist is 63 years old and had never heard of grindcore before they asked him to join. He just used to play jazz, where did it go wrong?!? Also I heard that they never play live and that they conceal their identities, afraid of getting fired from their medical jobs. I don’t know if all of this is true, but it sure makes this band a whole lot more interesting. Every gore fanatic should have this if you ask me!
