Franky Lee - Cutting Edge
Upon hearing the name Franky Lee, one might easily think we’re dealing with a seventy year old black man playing delta blues. Au contraire. Franky Lee is a young and fresh band, referring to themselves as “the product of a drunken scheme”. All members are currently playing in other bands, Millencolin, Randy & The Peepshows to be more precise.
Fronted by Matthias Farm, guitarist for Millencolin the band delivers sharp muscular rock’n’roll.

Kicking off with 'Solitary' Franky Lee grabs the listener firmly by the balls and holds it while delivering a steady beat with rhythmic guitar riffs and melodic vocals. The vocal harmonies in the back are one of those hard to find hints that the guys have gained their musical experience in punkrock. Matthias Farm takes care of the vocal duties for the first time in his life, and does quite a good job. Of course with a Swedish accent, but not as bad as Millencolin band colleague Nikola Sarcevic does it in both Millencolin and in his solo-project. Farm’s vocals give the songs extra color; a raspy voice that sometimes head towards screaming.

Halfway the record we find 'The World Just Stopped', a slower song, taken off the album as a single already, containing some great hooks and layered vocals. Lyricist Matthias Farm sings how he misses his good friend and studio-partner Mieszko, the Nasum frontman who passed away during the Tsunami disaster.

Franky Lee’s debut album isn’t maybe that Cutting Edge as the title suggests, and it probably won’t change the world, but it’s pretty damn good. The band will be touring to promote the record this year. Hopefully they’ll stick together to make a follow up to this lovely debut.
