Cirith Gorgor - Cirith Gorgor
Cirith Gorgor, a pretty big name in the Dutch black metal scene. I’ve heard that name very often, read a lot about them, but I’ve never actually heard any music nor have I seen this band playing live. Better late than never.

Cirith Gorgor was founded in 1993 and the new album, Cirith Gorgor, is their 4th full-length album. Next to that they released some demos, splits and E.P.’s. Like I said above, I’ve never heard any music of this band, so I cannot compare this album with their earlier releases. But I already can tell you I definitely want to have them as well.

The first song is called ‘Total Annihilation’, and that is how this song sounds. Aggressive guitar riffs, blasts and some cold vocals are melted together in a destructing song. Although the song is very fast, and very aggressive it also sounds melodic, it really is not just bashing on guitars.

I really like the second song,‘The Black Hordes’. The guitar riffs and licks in this song are awesome, with lots of passion. And lets net forget the very tight blasts. After about 4 and a half minutes a more slow/mid tempo part takes over. It seems like it tells you a tale, but without any words or vocals. Very nice. And the blast goes on again. After almost 9 minutes the song has its end. That is how it has to be done.

Then there is ‘Demonic Incarnation’, which sounds even better, more aggression, more emotion, more hate. This song really has some über riffs.

Actually it wouldn’t make any difference if I would write about all the other songs. They all have the same infernal recipe. Great song writing, a lot of dark emotions and no time to get bored.

To me, this is how black metal has to sound. Aggressive but with emotion. Bands like Taake, Nargaroth, or Angst give me that same feeling.

Personally I expect this album to be one of the better black metal albums of this year and it should be in any black metal collection.
