Kotton F.U.C.K. - Stay Beef
Now here’s an interesting bandname; Kotton F.U.C.K. Although they are from Italy, a band that spawns many metal and rock bands but not all on the same level of quality unfortunately, they sound pretty entertaining to me. Crossover/nu-metal is what these guys play, and when was the last time that anything interesting in that genre was released. Maybe these guys can bring us the answer.

Well I just start with saying that these guys will definitely not be the next big thing. But I’m completely not trying to say that this is a bad band. Au contraire, I’m very much amused by Kotton F.U.C.K. They must have been paying a lot of attention to how bands like System Of A Down and Korn got the humour part in their music, because they follow in these footsteps perfectly. Incoherent jabbering from the vocalist, weird song structures, funky rock parts and funny samples make Stay Beef an entertaining and occasionally hilarious album. In the first track already there’s Donald Duck saying ‘you stupid son-of-a-bitch’, and I definitely hear samples of Queen’s ‘Another One Bites The Dust’, which is embedded in a great way.

But how do they perform musically one might wonder. Well, it’s surely not bad but it isn’t something that hasn’t been done before either. The song structures and riffs themselves are alright, but with a following release they have to give me more than this to really convince me. Regarding the vocalist I have to say that his screams and grunts are just fine, his raps are above average, he’s got more of a flow than one infamous character named Fred Durst does, but his singing voice isn’t all that great. So he got two out of three, pretty good I’d say. The overall production is pretty great, everything sounds nice and powerful but very clear as well which helps a lot with any sudden transitions between parts/styles. And believe me, there are a lot of those. And as a nice extra there are three live tracks that sound good as well.

So if you’re looking for an entertaining nu-metalish record with a high dose of bullshit and quite some hidden potential I would advise you to check out Kotton F.U.C.K. I sure found some nice tracks on this disc, perhaps you will too.
