Electric Earth - Vol II - Words Unspoken
Sweden’s Electric Earth is already creating a bit of a buzz in their homeland it seems, and their new album that now lies before me is also being received quite well. Time for me to find out what’s new in Swedish hard rock!
Electric Earth claims to be influenced by classical and slightly more modern rock bands, like Kiss, Black Sabbath, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden and Led Zeppelin. This gives a good expectation of what Vol II – Words Unspoken has to offer. A good dose of heavy but melodic rock. The overall sound is quite stoner I’d say, at least I get way more into it after a smoke, but it is mainly the heavy sound of the guitar that causes this feeling. A plus point I’ll say!

The vocals of Peter Gottlieb remind me of the also up and coming heavy rock band Sahg, as well as a bit of Three Doors Down, and I haven’t decided yet whether that is a good thing or not. But I do know I hate the horribly emotional ballad ‘Little Song’, and especially the vocals in it. But for the rest the band as a whole puts in a good effort in the rock scene in my opinion.
Although the danger of mediocrity is quite near in some songs, the production of the music has layered it in such a way that it doesn’t become really annoying. If these guys were to truly find a sound of their own, things could become really interesting. For now, it’s old-school rock fans only I’d say.
