Achyronthia - The Final Crossing
The Belgium metal band Achyronthia was formed back in 1999. Ever since the beginning the band was struck by bad luck with vocalists which makes current vocalist Jokke Ponette their third vocalist. All by themselves they recorded their second full-length album and released it in 2006. Here’s what to expect from it.
To be honest I’m not too fond of the vocals. Most of the times there’s this kind of annoying standard voice in which no emotion or whatsoever can be found. Next to that there are screams that can’t convince me either. Although they seem somewhat more passionate it’s definitely not what I’m looking for.
I wouldn’t say this band sucks big time but I don’t believe in a breakthrough either. ‘Cause the vocals aren’t the only problem on this album. Not only do I miss a real powerful drum sound, the keyboard is too clearly present in my opinion and the guitar work isn’t something I would call special either. Most songs miss the real power and passion to convince me.
The style of music Achyronthia plays lies somewhere in between dark melodic and heavy melodic metal. The overall atmosphere tends to lean on mostly dark influences caused by the keys and low guitar riffing. Especially in a song like ‘Innerstorm’ you can find this atmosphere back. And if I may say so, if you do wanna try a song of this band, try that song!
I guess it’s quite obvious I don’t like the album very much. There’s no real power, no real passion, the vocals tend to be annoying over time and the instrumentals don’t come out too well in the mix either. Nope, The Final Crossing isn’t what I would recommend fans of dark melodic heavy metal. Maybe next time guys!
