SQY Rocking Team - Top Fuel Tendencies
With some bands it is quite hard to believe that they’re actually from Holland. When I found out that Golden Earring were actually Dutch it really surprised me. I was absolutely convinced that they were from the country of Uncle Sam. And I’d swear that the guys from SQY Rocking Team were his cousins. They sure fooled me with Top Fuel Tendencies. This album sounds, looks, smells and feels American. It's been out for quite a while now, and finally it gets reviewed on Metalrage

Kick starting with the urban noises of ‘New York City’ (Or ‘NYC’) I just thought that they were singing about their own hometown. The music is a crossover between metal and southern rock. Hmm, how can I describe it better? A mix of good old-fashioned Lynyrd Skynyrd meets modern day Black Label Society? Well, yes. The archetypical Dutch gothic metal sounds? Hell, no! Not SQY Rocking Team, not even a bit. They sound so American that it is almost unbelievable that they’re from the land of wooden shoes and windmills. If I didn’t know better, that is. So many Dutch bands hop on this easy gothic bandwagon in an attempt to become successful.

Not many bands in Holland play this kind of music, simply because it isn’t in fashion to play in this style. As I was to witness at Venlo’s Perron 55 venue a few months ago, there was a big shortage of punters. It didn’t prevent these 4 guys to play a kick ass show. And their perseverance paid off recently with gigs in the UK and…yes, New York. With an album like Top Fuel Tendencies they deserve it. Go check them out!
