Full Blown Chaos - Heavy Lies The Crown
Full Blown Chaos surprised friend and foe when they released their first album on the label of Jamey Jasta, Stillborn Records. Wake The Demons is until this day an album that passes through my cd-player regularly. Last year they left Stillborn Records to ink a deal with Ferret Records, which obviously released their latest album called Heavy Lies The Crown. As we all know the third album of a band is a crucial one most of the times. Are they or aren’t they going to make it?

Starting with ‘Firefight’ they immediately blast out every little piece of dust that’s hiding in your speaker. A brutal song with strong riffs that gives a lot of hope for the rest of the album. Hope that changes to a little bit of euphoria a few songs later. Powerful riffs with brutal vocals and intense drumming that were recorded by Billy Graziadei of Biohazard in the Underground Sound studios in New York. A great move if you ask me. Billy managed to hold on to the sound of Full Blown Chaos, but also make their music a little more interesting by adding little details.

As for the lyrics it’s very simple; they mostly handle about self preservation and being true to yourself. Which are brought to you by Ray Mazolla who again surprised me with the intensity of the vocals. He constantly gives you the feeling he’s standing behind you and gives you a kick in the ass if you want to give up on things.

But there’s more to Full Blown Chaos than the eye can see. With the instrumental song ´Mojave Red Pt.1´ we see a completely different band with a song that even reminds me a bit of the instrumental songs that Cliff Burton used to write for Metallica. A nice quiet song with great climaxes and a perfect interlude to ´Mojave Red Pt.2´, which is the last song on this album.

It’s pretty obvious Full Blown Chaos didn’t reinvent the wheel with this album but they did make a killer record that is loaded with emotion, passion, integrity and fury. Four words that describe this album completely. Definitely a must for every metalcore fan, especially when you want to hear some real metalcore and not the crap that most of the bands release today. Full Blown Chaos is ready for the future and I just can´t wait to see them live.
