Dead Soul Tribe - A Lullaby For The devil
Dead Soul Tribe, basically Devon Graves' brain child, is known for constantly delivering quality. Not only the music and sound is meticulously paid attention to, Devon also makes sure that the lyrics aren’t of a crappy quality. Also known for unleashing dreamy atmospheric metal to metalkind, there were rumours that this album would be different.
The new Dead Soul Tribe album does indeed have a change of direction. It is rawer and more metal than their previous releases. Front man Devon Graves explains on their website that a change was necessary: “The goal was to step completely out of the style I'd developed and called 'tribal metal' and move into something completely new.”
Still the resulting product, A Lullaby For The Devil, is typically Dead Soul Tribe. The music still contains atmospheric metal and those haunting, but oh so beautiful and melodic vocals. And Devon didn’t throw away the flute either. Ominous present in ‘The Gossamer Strand’ the song is also pervaded by tribal like drums. This is really a great track! The track ‘Further Down’ is the best example of the new tough-as-nails metal approach; it is probably the heaviest song of their career.
Nominated for my personal list of 2007.
