Eclectika - The Last Blue Bird
From France the band Eclectika has reached our office with their first full length outing The Last Blue Bird. This is the bands second release, after a demo two years ago, and this release comes through the French label Asylum Ruins, so lets see what its about!

This band was founded by Sbastien Regnier, who claims to have taken this band through numerous line-up changes. I dont see how that happened, because he plays all the instruments himself, aided by some dude doing screams and a woman doing the high goth vocals. Also Sbastien does the rest of the vocals, so one could almost say its a one-man project. Unfortunately the drums are programmed (I think) because there is no drummer obviously.

My opinion about The Last Blue Bird is that there are some nice ideas on it, but they havent reached a mature state yet. The main downfall of this band is the fact that they try to combine so many different styles, they dont really have a face of their own anymore. And it doesnt sound natural, or fluent if you will. It goes from black metal to thrash, to goth to ambient, but the transitions between the parts are far from subtle. Too bad.

Overall you can hear some talent in this band, but they are far from getting the maximum out of it. Also the vocals dont really impress, and the female has some trouble keeping the tones she sings right. Id say that this band needs a couple of more years to get something decent on the market, because this doesnt quite cut it.
