Bereavement - The Advent Of Loss
At the last metalrage meeting I received a promo of the French band Bereavement's first full length The Advent Of Loss. When I opened it back home it appeared to be broken. Luckily one of the guys in the band could send me the album via internet, so I could review it anyway. Let's see now.

What we have here is a band that makes progressive black/death metal, combining a lot of melody and clean passages with brutal metal riffs and vocals. You could compare it to Opeth, but that band is way out of their league. And I mean waaaaaaaaaaay out of their league. The song structures are far from interesting yet, although I do hear some nice parts here and there. But also the clean vocals are a dread to listen to. Though here is some talent in Bereavement, but I'd say the guys need to take another couple of years to really create magic.

Also the crummy production of The Advent Of Loss adds up to making this album an irritating thing to listen to. But I know it's hard for a starting band to get something decent out these days, so I won't complain about that. For now I can surely say that I don't want to listen to this album again, but I would like to know what these guys may do in the future. I hope they might find their own twist of Opeth-esque metal.
