Steve Moore - The Henge
Since Ive started my internship at Relapse Records, many things I hadnt heard before have entered my ears. One of them is the solo album of Steve Moore of the act Zombi, which has about as much to do with metal as my mother. No matter, lets check out The Henge!
Steve Moore makes music in the region of ambient, drone and synth stuff. You can place him somewhere between acts like Kitaro, Earth and Sunn 0))) I think, although that is a very vague description. With my first listen to The Henge I was kind of bored sometimes actually, but when I listened to it again I was very entertained. Or should I say relaxed.
Now I think its a great album, excellently suitable for a good moment of relaxation. My favourite of the album is the track The Henge/Ascension which for the first part is a synth-song with a beat accompanying it, but when the other half of the song kicks in Im suddenly listening to a drone soundscape that immediately reminds me of grandmasters Sunn 0))). Awesome!
These long songs are going to be excellent for the increasingly shorter and darker days. I can already see the flickering candlelight and hear the howling wind outside as I turn this one up. The Henge is definitely a record for the winter to come, and I must thank Steve Moore for opening my eyes towards this music. I will definitely check out more stuff of Zombi soon.
