Astral Doors - Of The Son And The Father
For starters I would recommend you to read the very impressive biography of the band, which can be found on the homepage, of which the link is listed above. The story of the gentlemen in Astral Doors wrote is a cool way to introduce their debut album, but I think they need to write a more true-to-life biography for the upcoming albums, because there is not much info on the band in there. But back to the music. Whooooooaaaahhhh!! What power! I have rarely encountered such a devastating heavy metal voice like that of Patrik Johansson: deep, raw and energetic! The music is not innovative, but it sure is catchy. Cloudbreaker has quite a stereotypical heavy metalsound to it which automatically makes it more recognisable. Where Cloudbreaker is fast and agressive, Of The Son And The Father (which sort of has a christian background) is somewhat slower and darker. The chorus is sung with a small choir and to me it sounded like a revelation at one time, and another time it sounded like an exorcism. Both were positively welcomed by my hearing channel. Where the first two tracks (the ones mentioned above) are true highlights, the rest of the cd stays a little behind. Changing into more standard heavy metal in the instrumental parts, its a bit too easy to listen to. The songs are well-written though, which certainly is a big plus. The composition of the album is more than okay. Well written songs, heavy guitars and some of the most powerful heavy metal vocals Ive ever heard make this album well worth your buy! Heavy metal to the core!
